Scott Mitchell II M.D.
​- Executive Director

I am extremely honored and blessed to have the opportunity to start and lead Stand With Me. SWM helps my friends and patients across the globe get the medical care that they desperately need in their own living rooms! I’m a neurosurgery resident physician at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. I received my medical degree in 2020 from the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine. My undergraduate degrees are in biochemistry from Bowdoin College in 2015, and biomedical engineering from Dartmouth College in 2016. I am originally from Bangor, Maine and I attended high school at the Kent School in Kent, Connecticut.

The unexpected passing of my sister during my high school years gave me the opportunity to rely on my faith and begin a more personally motivated relationship with God. During this time, I continued to pursue my interest in medicine with a Christian ministry called Medical Ministry International (MMI). Through MMI, I served as an interpreter for medical teams in Peru, Ecuador and Dominican republic. In the summer of 2013, I did a three month internship with MMI in Arequipa, Peru which is where I was first introduced to physical therapy and standing frames and noticed how even simple medical devices were life changing and widely unavailable in the developing world. My extensive involvement with medical missions showed me that humanitarian service is most effective when combined with Christian ministry. This combination serves both the physical and spiritual needs of patients, while providing volunteers a unique opportunity to exercise their talents and cultivate a giving heart.

Emma is a senior medical student at Marion University interested in pursing residency in surgery or OBGYN. She has been to Guatemala twice and has led her own project in January 2024 following up with patients, developing PT training programs, and improving workshop organization and efficiency.
